Healthy living with osteoporosis

People with osteoporosis can still maintain an active lifestyle. Mild exercise may help strengthen bones and muscles and help prevent fractures. Talk to your doctor before starting any exercise program.

A healthy, well-balanced diet is important, too. Try to eat foods that are high in calcium and vitamin D and avoid excessively salty or sugary foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol.

Be sure to talk to your doctor about proper nutrition and any supplements or medications you plan on taking.
